Life at two Auckland broadcasting stations has taken on a new note in the last few days. First it was Melba, the donkey in “Naughty Marietta,” whose remarkable voice carried so far from backstage at His Majesty's Theatre that it was unofficially recorded on a IZB programme. Now it is a kookaburra. The kookaburra takes post on the roof aerial at IYA from where, according to reports, it has wakened Shortland street residents with a fiendish laugh about 5 a.m. The bird has also made its presence felt at Government House. Lady Norrie, opening a new S.P.C.A. clinic on Saturday, said that it woke her early. It seems to have a definite beat, alternating between the wireless mast. Government House, and Albert Park.
