SYNTAX SCRATCHED FOR CAULFIELD CUP

(N.Z Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 8.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, October 2. Syntax was scratched today from the Caulfield Cup. but is still a candidate for the Melbourne Cup. His owner-trainer, Mr S. H. Walker, gave no reason. Racing men previously have considered the Caulfield Cup would suit Syntax better than the Melbourne Cup, but Mr Walker said today he did not consider the two-mile Melbourne Cup beyond Syntax. Syntax has had three easy defeats recently, and his connexions probably considered there was insufficient time to bring him to top form for the arduous Caulfield Cup, to be run on October 20.
