SALE OF ANTARCTIC STAMP COVERS

More than 1100 of the Ross Sea Committee’s official souvenir stamp covers for the 1956-58 trans-Antarctic expedition were, sold at the Chief Post Office, Christchurch, on the first day of sales this week.

The expedition’s ship, the Endeavour, will take the covers south in December for posting to New Zealand from a special post office to be opened in the Ross Dependency. Buyers address the covers, pencil on them the stamps to be affixed, and hand them back to the post office with the required amount of money.
