WAIMAIRI WATER SUPPLY
Sir, —It is high time residents in the Waimairi county were informed through the daily newspapers, or told personally, when the water supply is to be shut off. The inconvenience people are put to is absolutely appalling. This is not the first time this has occurred. It has been off from 7.30 a.m. and comes on again at 12 noon. Residents have to do without water all that time. If people were told, they could have some in reserve. But no, the council just shuts it off. This is very unsatisfactory, and some explanation is required from the council. In communicating with the county office, I was told that a main burst. Another says they are changing over to high pressure. Today we are deprived of water again, without warning.—Yours, etc., RATEPAYER. September 27, 1956. [“Only in one area of the county has the water supply been cut off for any great length of time,” said Mr W. E. Cassidy, chairman of the Waimairi County Council. “This was in the Middleton area when the council’s water supply system was connected to the low-pressure water system existing in the State housing blocks in this area of the county. I am informed that all properties affected by this change-over were visited and the residents advised that the change-over would be taking place. If a person was not at home when this visit was made, it is possible that the information was not conveyed to that resident. The other occasion on which the water was off in this area was when a water main burst, and except for a few properties in the area the supply was resumed within a very short time.”]
