ROYAL TOUR BEGINS
Princess Leaves For Africa (Rec. 11 p.m.) LONDON, Sept. 21. Prinee.-s Margaret left London airport this morning to begin her flveweek tour of the East African territories of Mauritius, Zanzibar, Tar gunyika, and Kenya. The Princess boarded a British Overseas Airways Corporation Argonaut, which took off for Mombasa by way of Gibraltar, Kano (Nigeria), and Entebbe (Uganda) shortly before 8.30 oclock G.MT. The 26-year-old Princess, who was beginning the longest air journey she has yet made, was to have flown over Egypt, but the Suez Canal crisis caused a change of route. For the same reason the Cape route was chosen tor the Royal yacht Britannia, which will carry the Princess from Mombasa to Mauritius and Zanzibar. Princess Margaret and the Queen Mother arrived at the airport at 8 a.m., the Princess in a navy blue c<at and her mother in powder blue. Both wore white, tight-fitting hats.
Third African Visit The Princess's trip is her third to Africa, and her second "solo" official tour. Her first goodwill tour abroad on her own was to the British West Indies nearly -two years ago. The Princess has been inoculated for the tour against yellow fever, smallpox, and typhoid. Her engagements include a reception by Asian and Arab women at Mombasa on Sunday, dinner with the Sultan at Zanzibar on October 5. a visit to a Tanganyika diamond mine on October 15. and a dinner at Government House Nairobi, on October 19.
She is to return to London on October 28.
