MAGISTRATE’S COURT

TUESDAY (Before Mr Rex C. Abernethy, S.M.) IDLE AND DISORDERLY A man who was found sleeping upder a hedge at the Addington Tennis Club’s grounds shortly before 10 p.m. on Monday, and who was described by Sub-Inspector J. J. Halcrow as being in a “filthy state and in need of a good clean-up,’’ was sentenced to a month’s imprisonment on a charge of being deemed idle and disorderly in that he had insufficient lawful means of support. He was Theodore Malm, aged 56, a labourer Sub-Inspector Halcrow said that Malm, when questioned by a constable, said that he had been sleeping out for 10 days. He had 6d m his possession when arrested, and said that he had been finding some money in the street, and would sometimes get a few shillings from passers-by. He was no stranger to the court. Malm, who pleaded guilty, said that he had a pain in his spine and could not stand up to work. REMANDED Geoffrey William Fisher, aged 26. a labourer and cook (Mr B. McClelland), was remanded to September 17 on a charge of breaking and enterin the shop of C. J. Smith and Son, Ltd., High street, Rangiora, on September 8 with intent to commit a crime. , An application by Mr McClelland for bail was opposed by Senior-De-tective J. B. McLean, and was refused. TRAFFIC BREACHES In charges brought by the Transport Department, offenders against the traffic regulations were dealt with as follows: — Exceeding 50 miles an hour: Robertson Dickson, John Fairmaid O’Rourke.
