LOANS FOR RAILWAY TICKETS
(N.Z. Press Association— Copyright) SYDNEY, August 25. A pointed comment on the high cost of living in Australia was made this week by the Sydney ‘‘Daily Telegraph.” The Rural Bank has begun offering loans to the public for the purchase of yearly railway tickets. The ‘‘Daily Telegraph” comments: “This shows the bank is on the ball. The day is past when a wage-earner got a railway ticket’ in order to get to work. He works now in order to get a railway ticket.” In further comment on the high cost of transport—which was steeply increased recently—the paper says: ‘‘The banks eventually will have to provide loans for the purchase of daily tickets on trams, trains, and buses.”
