FRENCH FOREST FIRE
FOURMILE WIDE FRONT (Rec. 8 p.m.) PARIS, August 25 A forest blaze which yesterday claimed three victims as it swept forward on a four-mile front through the alpine foothills today closed in on the perfume centre of Grasse amid fears of an even higher death toll. Perfume workers and holidaymakers mingled with 1000 police and firemen fighting the flames as families were evacuated from their homes in the path of the fire. The fire was brought under control later this morning. More than 1000 weary firemen, police, local volunteers and holidaymakers fought the fire through the night, and this morning when the wind dropped they succeeded in limiting it.
