SYDNEY POTATO PRICE
(Rec. 10 p.m.) SYDNEY. August 24. Potato prices rose to a record 2s 4d per lb in some Sydney shops today, and were up to 2s per lb in Melbourne.
The average retail price tor potatoes in both cities was about Is 9d per lb Potato prices have risen steadily in the last few' months.
College Of Piping For Skye 'Rec. 9 p.m.) LONDON, August 23.' Pipers and lovers of bagpipe music throughout the world, particularly in Scotland, .will be asked soon to sup port an appeal for funds to establish a new College of Piping at Borreraig in Skye, says “The Times.” It is here that the famous Mac Crimmons of Borrcraig, hercdiiar;> pipers to the Clan Macleod. taught the pibroch to students from every clan for over three centuries during the Middle Ages. Architectural plans have already been prepared. The college is expected to cost about £lO.OOO and it »s hoped that grants may be obtained from organisations such as. the Scottish Education Department, the Carnegie United Kingdom Trustees and lhe Arts Council. It is planned to establish the college as a summer school centre where the pibroch, as distinct from spurious “tinker piping.” may be taught in ideal conditions to young pipers from the Celtic nations and elsewhere.
