Y.M.C.A. Street Appeal
The school holiday programme for boys, which has been arranged by the Young Men’s Christian Association to provide some kind of healthy and interesting activity every day J for the next three weeks, is a useful reminder of the services which have been given for 81 years in Christchurch by this organisation. Readers to whom the Y.M.C.A. means little more than gymnasium training coupled with Christian teaching will have been - surprised that, at no cost to the boys, such an effort can be sustained for such a long holiday period. It is a work worthy of support. In the last year the Y.M.C.A. has taken a leading part in the community efforts to resolve the problems of youth in the modern world. It provides a welfare service for young military trainees on leave from camp, and arranges for the public discussion of social questions.l It has opened its doors to many
other societies as a meeting place 'and, as a result, its present work is I becoming better known. The I Y.M.C.A. is now catering for very large numbers of boys and young men. At a time when such activities, under sound leadership, are in common demand, the public may feel confident that contributions to today’s appeal will assist a valuable community service by an associa- | tion which accepts responsibility readily and with imagination.
