CHASE IN OAMARU TIMBER YARD
MAN DROPS CUTTING TORCH A constable on beat duty in Oamaru in the early hours of yesterday morning saw a man carrying an acetylene cylinder and oxy-acetylene torch across a timber yard. 'The constable chased the man who threw down the cylinder and torch and escaped after dodging among stacks of timber. The police found that the premises of Bulleids, Ltd., had been broken into and it is thought that the man had then gone to the timber yard to get the cylinder and torch hidden there and use them to cut open the safe. This man and at least one other got away in a motor-car.
