SKILFUL PLAY ON SECOND DAY (New Zealand Press Association) INVERCARGILL, August 21. Some closely-contested games and a high standard of play marked the second day's play in the New Zealand amateur billiards championship today. Features were the success of E. Simons, the Canterbury left-hander, over L. Stout, of Wellington, and several breaks of more than 60. A. Twohill, the New Zealand champion, retained both his lives by beating H. Robinson (Wellington) in an interesting game. Four players remain in the top half of the draw with two lives—Simons, A. Phillips (Auckland), W. Harcourt (Wellington), and Twohill. Results were:—E. Simon (Canterbury) 412, beat J. S. Procter (Southland) 313; A. Twohill (Canterbury! 520, beat H Robinson (Wellington) 315; S. R. Baker (Southland) 386, beat P. B. Barnett (Southland) 370; A. Phillips (Auckland) 470. beat J. J. Kearns (Southland) 375. The draw for tomorrow is:—Kearns v. R. Young, Stout v. Robinson, Harcourt v. Phillips, Baker v. winner of KearnsYoung game. Simons v. Twohill.
