MR HAROLD BECK HONOURED Mr Harold Beck, a former Christchurch musician, with Mrs Beck and Miss Dorothy Davies, pianist for Mr Beck during his tour of New Zealand, were entertained at a reception by the Christchurch Society of Registered Music Teachers yesterday morning. Mr Beck had been away from New Zealand for about 15 years, said the president of the society (Mr Ernest Empson) when welcoming the guests of honour. For some years. Mr Beck had been the leading ’cellist of the Halle Orchestra, and now held a similar position with the London Symphony Orchestra. “We all hope that he will some day come back and again take a leading part in the musical activities of New Zealand,” said Mr Empson. Mr Beck said he was grateful for the inspiration and help Christchurch musicians had given him during his residence in Christchurch. He gave sidelights of famous conductors under whom he had played.
