TRANS-ANTARCTIC EXPEDITION
N.Z. CONTRIBUTION PRAISED
(Special Correspondent N.Z.P.A.) LONDON. Aug. 17. Sir Miles Clifford, formerly Governor of the Falkland Islands, and a leading member of the trans-Antarctic expedition management committee, has paid a tribute in the "Glasgow Herald” to the ‘‘very great contribution” which New Zealand is making toward the expedition. "We are tremendously pleased,” he said, ‘‘that New Zealand is so closely associated with this great adventure. It is something we who have been involved in Antarctic work have desired for a number of years. ‘‘New Zealand has held the Ross Dependency for a long time, and so far has been unable to carry out any exploration, work. When the opportunity came it grasped it with both hands.” Sir Miles Clifford added that when the expedition was over New Zealand would be left with the "good stout ship Endeavour” and a base on the continent.
"We hope,” he said, “that New Zealand will continue with the work in the Antarctic which we believe to be so important”
