WANGANUI OLD BOYS ENTERTAIN

Visitors to Christchurch for the inter-collegiate Rugby football tournament from Hawke’s Bay. Wellington, Wanganui and the Wairarapa were among the guests at a private cocktail party late on Saturday afternoon given by the Canterbury branch of the Wanganui Collegiate School Old Boys’ Association at Elizabeth House.

The guests, numbering about 100. included the headmaster of the school (Mr R. Bruce Lockhart) and Mrs Lockhart (Wanganui), the president of the Christ’s College Old Boys’ Association, Mr Stock (Gisborne), the president of the Wellington College Old Boys’ Association, Mr Pask, and Mrs Pask (Wellington), the Dean of Christchurch (the Very Rev. Martin Sullivan) and Mrs Sullivan, the headmaster of Christ’s College (Mr H. R. Hornsby) and Mrs Hornsby, Mr and Mrs Ernest Taylor and Mr and Mrs John Garland.

They were received by the president (Mr P. B. Austin) and Mrs Austin, who wore a navy blue and white check silk suit and a small cherry hat. Nelson College Party

The Christchurch branch of Nelson College Old Boys’ Association held an enjoyable reunion cocktail party early on Saturday evening in the National Party rooms to mark the tournament.

More than 150 guests, many of them visitors to Christchurch for the tournament and the test match between South Africa and New Zealand, were welcomed by the president (Mr G. W. A. Green) and Mrs Green.

The guests of honour included Mr C. W. Johnson, acting headmaster of Nelson College, Mr C. Caldwell, coach of the first fifteen, Mr D. F. Horler, chairman of the College board of governors, and Mrs Horler, and representatives of the Wellington College, Christ’s College and Wanganui Collegiate School teams. Mrs Green’s slim-fitting frock of black shantung was shot with emerald green. Her close-fitting hat and accessories were black.
