N.Z. ANTARCTIC EXPEDITION
MEMBERS OF SUPPORT GROUP
The names of three members of the summer support group of 17 men who will accompany the New Zealand Antarctic party to McMurdo Sound in December, have been announced by the Ross Sea Committee. They are: Mr Arthur S. Helm, of Wellington, aged 42. secretary of the Ross Sea
Committee, who will be responsible for administrative liaison during the settling-in period, and will also supervise heavy postal and philatelic demands.
Mr Geoffrey Lee Martin, of Auckland, aged 29, a senior reporter of the “New Zealand Herald” staff, who will be official journalist to cover the establishment of Scott Base and expediion activities up to the departure from the Ross Sea of H.M.N.Z.S. Endeavour Mr R. E. Barwick, of Wellington, aged 26. of Victoria University College, who will be research biologist and black-and-white artist. Eleven more members of the summer • support group remain to be announced—two International Geophysical Year observers, a Ministry of Works construction foreman, seven men to erect Scott Base, and a medical officer.
The summer support group will return to New Zealand aboard H.M.N.Z.S. Endeavour next March.
