TEACHERS’ GOLF
Twenty-five years ago, a few teachers banded together to organise the first Teachers’ Golf Day, which was held on the old Harewood Links on August 25, 1931. In 1938, the venue was changed to Waitikiri and recently a policy was adopted of playing on a different course each year. An anniversary dinner will be held in conjunction with this year’s match, which will be played at Shirley. Dr. G. Jobberns, Messrs W. J. Cartwright, C. A. Noble, D. G. Wilson, C. T. Aschman, J. Wynn Irwin, E. A. Cockcroft, H. W. Gourlay and J. E. Strachan, present at the first tournament, have been invited to be present this year. The driving force behind the establishment of the tournament was Mr A. R. Blank, who gave the Pedagogic Bowl for annual competition. There is also the A. K. Anderson Trophy for foursome play. This year, a putting competition will be included. Students and former teachers are entitled to play in the tournament. This year, three entries have been received from North Island teachers, and the father of R. J. Mr A. I. Charles, who is now headmaster at the Cashmere School will compete.
