BROADCASTING OF PARLIAMENT
_ Sir,—Mr Carr wants better Ne* Zealand coverage for the broadcasting of Parliament. He also wants more music and less talk. He asks for “much more modern dance music” and, at the same time, a higher level of intelligence on the part of announcers and presumably, the general public. He doesn’t like tedious detail in radio advertising, preferring “short, pithy sentences rather than long, dreary monotones.” With the prestige of the Western democracies at the lowest level in history, I don't think it would be wise to broadcast Mr Carr’s words and reasoning any further than necessary.—Yours, etc., W.H.S. August 16, 1956.
