NIGHT TROTTING AT FORBURY

MEMBERS’ OPINIONS DIVIDED "‘The Press” Special Service DUNEDIN, August 14. The question of holding night trottins was revived at the annual meeting of the Forhurv Park Trotting Club last nieht. when close on 90 members made the attendance the largest for many years. . The consensus of those in favour ot the club staging night trotting appeared to be to use the extra permit for one dav's racing, recently granted to the club, during the festival week in February. This permit will be used on September 8 this season. The question was discussed at some leneth. but opinions were divided on the question, and it was left to the incoming committee to take such action as it con-j sidered necessary, and to make a report. to the members. After allowing for depreciation amounting to £1177. the club showed a profit of £1490 for the year. A notice of motion, that the annual sub- | scription be raised from £2 2s to £2 10s. and that the entrance fee be raised to £3 3s. was lost. The following notice of motion was' also defeated:— “That rule 25 be rescinded and the following substituted: —The affairs and general business of the club *hall be managed by a committee of 15 members, including the president and vice-president, who shall be elected by the committee. The five committeemen longest in office shall retire annually, and shall be eligible for re-election In the event of any dispute as to who has been longest in office, the same shall be decided by lot Those retiring shall be deemed to hold office until the date of the ensuing annual meeting.” It was argued that if the motion was carried it would deprive the members I of the right to vote for whom they | wished The following officers were elected:— j President.
