RAILWAY TRAFFIC CONTROL

The installation of centralised traffic control is planned on the ChristchurchRangiora section of the main north railway line. Since last September the system has been in operation on the section of the main south line between Oamaru and Maheno and the extension of the system southwards towards Hampden to link up with the system from Dunedin is proceeding.

At Greymouth a centralised traffic control panel costing £lO,OOO has been installed and work is continuing on the installation of the system on the Greymouth to Stillwater line. The system is being installed on the busiest sections of lines and where there is staff available to carry out the work.
