Mr I. D. Reid, of Wellington, and Mr F. F. Simmons, of Auckland, have been appointed to the Price Tribunal Mr Reid’s appointment is effective from July 9. and Mr Simmons’s from July 17. The resignation of Mr G Laurence as a member of the tribunal is also gazetted, his resignation taking effect from July 17.—(P.A.) Mr P. N. Thompson. of Te Kuiti, has been appointed resident inspector of the Health Department in Rangiora. He succeeds Mr O. D. Cruickshanks. who retired early last year. Since that time the borough has been without a resident inspector. Mr S. J. R. Chatten. the agency manager of the Australian Mutual Provident Society, and Dr. H. F. Bell, the society’s economist, will visit Christchurch next week. Mr Chatten has recently spent some months in England and America studying developments in life insurance. Dr. Bell holds a doctorate of philosophy in economics from the University of London. Mr E. M. Read, the acting district mechanical engineer of the Railways Department in Christchurch, has left Christchurch for the United States, where he will attend a three months* course on diesel electric locomotives with the General Motors Corporation in Chicago. Mr Read is the first South Island railways officer to go to America on such a course. Mr G. S J. Read, inspecting and test engineer of the department in Wellington, is now relieving as district mechanical engineer in Christchurch.
