AIR SERVICE TO MILFORD

Weekly Flights From ' Haast (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON. July 12. The new aerodrome at Milford Sound will be the means of keeping the Milford hotel open during the winter. Hitherto, because of the danger of avalanches on the Homer Tunnel road, the hotel has been closed during the winter. Last Tuesday a N.A.C. plane made a successful survey flight to the aerodrome and it is intended to introduce a charter flight service from Hokitika and Haast. Other private aircraft companies have applied to use the aerodrome and it is expected a number of tourists will fly to Milford during the winter when the applications have been granted. The winters there are normally mild and brilliant. To operate once a week at first the N.A.C. Dominie will reach Milford from Haast in less than an hour. If the charter flights are successful, an additional Dominie will be based at Hokitika and extra flights will be made. The fare from Haast to Milford has been fixed at £2 10s. The aerodrome which was constructed by the Ministry of Works is being officially licensed as a private aerodrome.
