Situation:— A ridge of high pressure extends across the south Tasman Sea on to southern New Zealand, and a depression is moving across the north Tasman Sea towards the North Island. Forecast:— Canterbury.—Moderate north - east winds near the coast, with cool, cloudy weather; light winds and fine weather inland. Marlborough and Nelson.—Winds from an easterly quarter, freshening in exposed places later in the day; mainly fair in the morning, but intermittent rain developing later in the day; cool temperatures. West Coast.—Light to moderate winds from an easterly quarter; a few showers in Buller, otherwise fair weather, with moderate day temperatures. Outlook.—All districts: Rain in Canterbury north of Banks Peninsula and in Marlborough; fair to cloudy in remaining areas. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER After a .frost of 3.2 degrees, the day in Christchurch yesterday was overcast and showery, with a moderate south-west wind and a maximum temperature of 45 degrees. At midnight the sky was cloudy and there was no wind. The temperature was 37.6 degrees. The barometer, at 29.97 inches (1014.9 millibars), was rising.
