WEST INDIES TOUR OF N.Z.

PROFIT OF £2OOO EXPECTED

VISIT BY AUSTRALIAN TEAM NEXT SEASON

A profit of £2OOO to £3OOO was expected from the tour of the West Indies cricket team, the chairman of the management committee (Mr J. L. Kerr) reported to the half-yearly meeting of the New Zealand Cricket Council last evening. Mr Kerr said the committee was pleased to know that finances were coming out on the right side because at one stage it was apprehensive. The account for the New Zealand tour of India and Pakistan had been almost completed. There was a guarantee and a surplus of about £l3OO should be made. “Next season we will have a visit by an Australian Xl,’’ Mr Kerr said. “It will not be an A team, but we hope it will be a good second team. It will arrive in New Zealand about February 14 and will be here for about six weeks. An itinerary of 12 matches has been submitted to the Australian Cricket Board of Control.” In 1958 a New Zealand team would visit England and all associations should be thinking about this tour, Mr Kerr said. It was very important that New Zealand should send a side that would perform creditably. Otherwise such a tour might be a financial loss.
