HANDLING OF N.Z. EXPORT MEAT

COMMENT ON REPORT BY SHIPPERS

(Special Correspondent N.Z.P.A.) LONDON, July 12. Commenting on the report of the meat delegation in New Zealand, the New Zealand Tonnage Committee in a statement says that numbers of ships quoted as being able to be discharged from Australia and New Zealand at any one time in London, Liverpool, Glasgow and Avonmouth were the numbers it was possible to handle at periods of acute congestion in those particular ports. Neither meat interests in the United Kingdom nor shipping companies accept that these figures will necessarily apply in future. Various methods were being examined to enable more ships to be worked in future if necessitated by more road transport, etc. "It therefore must be emphasised,” adds the committee, "that the figures quoted should be used only as a guide and not as a rigid position for evermore.”
