REUNION OF Ist ECHELON MEN

SOUTH ISLAND BODY FORMED

An association of members of various units of the Ist Echelon of the 2nd-New Zealand Expeditionary Force was formed recently.’ It will be known as the Ist Echelon Association. Iti objects are to hold regular district reunions, to take part in national reunions, and generally to preserve the spirit of the force which left New Zealand in 1’939 as the foundation of the 2nd N.Z.E.F. The idea of a South Island association has been alive for some years, but its formation was prompted by a recent successful Auckland reunion, which was attended by about 600 persons, some from as far south as Invercargill. The support of all members of the Ist Echelon, including those from smaller units which themselves have insufficient members to warrant a re* union, is expected. Many men at the reunion had first met 17 years ago, and had not seen one another since they were wounded, or taken prisoner in the Crete and Greece campaigns. Officers elected were:—Chairman, Mr G. F. Heasley; secretary-treasurer, Mr W. J. Balloch; committee, Messrs L. H. Barnes. W. D. Murray, D. A. McClintock. W. T. Hoare, A. F. Lennon, and C. Horgan.
