ESCAPE FROM POLICE
ALL FIVE MEN NOW IN CUSTODY (New Zealand Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH. July 4. Cold, tired, and hungry, the last two of the five men who escaped from the Rotorua Police Station on Monday evening were recaptured at Waitara tonight. The two men. William James Rawhiti. aged 22, and lahau Kira Hemopo. aged 18. were arrested as they were being driven into Waitara in a taxi. Rawhiti and Hemopo spent most of last night and all of today hiding and sleeping in scrub near where the car they had converted was stopped
by the police just after 11.30 p.m. yesterday. Their two companions in the car. David Basil Parkinson, aged 22. and Anthony Peter Hoerara. aged 20. were arrested as it was stopped. The fifth member of the party. Kirip’i Martin Hamilton, gave himself ip at Rotorua after being at large for five hours.
