N.Z. TROTTING CUP TROPHY

CHANGE IN PROCEDURE ANNOUNCED

A complete change in the awarding of trophies for the New Zealand Cup has been decided on by the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club. The changes were announced last night by the retiring president (Mr C. E. Hoy) at the annual meeting ot the club.

“It has been decided to purchase a gold challenge cup. which will be held by owners of winners of the race from year to year, and in place of the gold cup usually attached to the race there will be a valuable and useful trophy.” said Mr Hoy.

During the last few years the club had had great difficulty securing suitable gold cups. Costs had risen steeply, and cups in keeping with the occasion were almost impossible to secure. If imported, they were subject to heavy import duty. Numerous specifications were obtained both in New Zealand and overseas for the challenge cup, and a cup of outstanding design had been ordered from an English firm, said Mr Hoy. It would be presented for the first time to the owner of the winner of the 1956 New Zealand Cup.
