BLENHEIM ROAD
PETITION TO BOROUGH COUNCIL
“As soon as the board has investigated the matter, it has undertaken to let this council know of its findings,” said the Mayor of Riccarton (Mr E. J. Bradshaw) when the Riccarton Borough Council met last evening. The council was considering a petition from the occupiers of 42 houses on Blenheim road, between Matipo street and Wharenui road, against the state of the new highway in front of their homes.
Mr Bradshaw met members of the National Roads Board in Christchurch last week and discussed the matter with them.
The petition says that Blenheim road was originally to be an 80ft highway, and the Ministry of Works had built houses on the north side of the road set back to allow for the width. The original plans had been altered, and there was now a “wilderness” of 40ft between the footpath and the edge of the sealed part of the new road. “This no-man’s-land is causing a great deal of trouble.” said Mr Bradshaw. “However, there is nothing we can do until we hear from the roads board.” The council received the petition.
