FRENCH POLICY ON ALGERIA
Socialist Support For Mollet (Rec. 9 n.m.) LILLE. July !. The Socialist Prime Minister of France 'Mr Guy Mollet) today won an overwhelming victory over Left-wing Socialist opponents of his Algerian policy. The 700 .delegates to the annual Socialist Partv congress at Lille endorsed his Algerian policy by a card vote of 3308 to 363 as the four-day congress ended today. Throughout the three days of debate on Algeria, the Socialist Party, although traditionally pacifist and anticolonialist. showed itself clearly opposed to the idea of France abandoning her position in Algeria. The motion approved the French Government's plan to pacify the coun-
try and then hold elections to produce representatives with whom the future of Algeria could be discussed.
Any future status would recognise Ihe “Algerian personality.” but also the “indisocnsable links’’ with France of the territory, which is now an integral part of France, it said.
