£28,456,672 In Ten Months HEAVY OFF-COURSE SUPPORT Totalisator investments and races at all galloping meetings in the first 10 months of the current racing season amounted to £28.456.672 15s. On course investments on 169 meetings, covering 254 days’ racing, were £14,161,159, including £1,778,870 15s invested on doubles. Doubles betting was more popular with off-course investors and accounted for £6,964.539 of the offcourse total of £14,295.513 15s. In two of the metropolitan districts, Hawke’s Bay and Greymouth, offcourse doubles betting was heavier than win-and-place betting. Off-course betting was heavier than on-course betting on 20 meetings, covering 29 days’ racing in the Canterbury district. The combined total was £3.165,762 ss, of which £1,714,484 5s went through the T.A.B. Off-course doubles betting on meetings in Canterbury contributed £761,958 ss. and £541,214 10s of that total was invested on the Canterbury Jockey Club’s four meetings. For the 10 days’ racing at Riccarton, £1,031.989 10s were invested on the course. That would include £104,231 in doubles. Off-course betting on Riccarton was higher than the on-course figure—and came tc £1,236.046. of which doubles betting provided . £541.214 10s. Only the Wellington and Auckland clubs had heavier support from off-course. The Wellington figure was £1,478.570 15s. but the Wellington Racing Club has three days’ racing left before the season ends on July 31. The figure for the Auckland Racing 1ub—£1.450.667 10s—does not include off-course betting on the three-day Great Northern meeting last month. On-course and off-course figures for the 10 metronolitan districts are given below with the numbers of days’ racing in parentheses:—
