OFFICIAL FORECASTS “The Press” Special Service WELLINGTON, July 1. The weather forecast issued at 9 p.m by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, for the 27 hours after the time of issue, is:— Situation:— A depression is centred far to the south-east of the South Island, and a disturbed west-to-south-west airstream covers the New Zealand area. Forecast:— Nelson.—Light to moderate winds, mainly from a northerly quarter; scattered showers, chiefly in the ranges; weather otherwise mainly fair, with cool to moderate temperatures; outlook, similar conditions. Marlborough.—Light to moderate winds, mainly westerlies, but southwesterlies prevailing on the Kaikoura coast; some scattered showers, chiefly in the ranges; weather otherwise mainly fair, with cool to moderate temperatures; outlook, similar conditions. Westland and Buller.—Moderate to fresh south-west winds; variable skies, with some show’ers, but becoming mainly fair in South Westland later; outlook, mainly fair, apart from a few passing showers. Canterbury.—Moderate south-west winds gradually predominating; variable skies; some passing showers, chiefly in the coastal areas; cool day and cold night temperatures; outlook, little change. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER The weather in Christchurch yesterday was fair, but cloudy, w’ith a very light north-west wind. At midnight, the sky was clear, and a four-knot north-east wind was blowing. The temperature was 43 degrees. The barometer was steady at 29.32 inches (992.9 millibars).
