ELEVATED RAILWAYS

Sir, —So “The Walrus” has been sitting on his “tale” having a peep at me. Well, I remember Members of Parliament when they had two legs. Now they have four wheels, and must not look to the right or left. If they got those legs again I could show them how to put a row of six-storey flats along Deans avenue, facing Hagley park. The saleyards could be shifted to a location where the livestock could be housed and fed for a fortnight (if that were needed). But it would take an elevated railway system around the city to finish the picture. But the madmen are building a mountain at Alliance street, for the insane overbridge. However, a “practical” man told me he is collecting a fund for wreaths for the four-wheeled Members of Parliament who will be killed at the 48 level crossings that will be left when the members of Parliament have spent a fortune on the overbridges funny railway bosses want. —Yours, etc., L. C. WALKER. July 1, 1956.
