Wealthy Stockbroker Kidnapped In Own Car

(New Zealand Press Association) BERKELEY (California), June 29. Police said today that two Air Force policemen kidnapped Mr Charles Russell Rose, a wealthy stockbroker, from his fashionable home in his own pink Cadillac car in an attempted robbery. His wife told the police: “The men who robbed us took my husband away.” However, the captive escaped unharmed an hour later at a police

road-block. One of the kidnappers was captured. The other fled on foot. The police said the men—who obtained no loot from the bungled attempt—gained entry to the house by saying they were sanitation engineers investigating an outbreak of typhoid. They then produced guns and tied up the whole family with neckties. A neighbour called the police and the men forced Mr Rose to get in the car and help them escape.

'The police said the men were from a nearby Air Force base.
