200 Australian Car Workers Dismissed

June 30. _lwo hundred men have been dismissed from the motor-car industry in Melbourne, the Victorian secretary of the Vehicle Builders’ AssoCl ml° n ( Nl r I- Higgins) said yesterday The Federal Government has announced import cuts which will reduce the importation of both completed and unfinished motor-vehicles. Mr Higgins said that dismissals in the motor-car industry in Victoria in the last six or eight weeks totalled 1450. These had mostly been caused by the higher sales tax on vehicles The only way to create new jobs was to begin the manufacture in Australia of car parts to take the nlace of those which are blocked by import restrictions, said Mr Higgins.
