CANTERBURY NOMINATION FOR N.Z. ATHLETIC TEAM WELL DESERVED

rpHE nomination of Flight Lieutenant A E. Lunn for the position of manager of the New Zealand athletic team for the Olympic Games in Melbourne by the Canterbury centre of the N.Z.A.A.A. is a tribute to the valuable contribution he has made to the administration of athletics. While quarter-mile hurdling was his main event —he gained a Canterbury College “blue” for this—Ted Lunn’s contribution as an active competitor was mainly as a valuable all-rounder to his club. Now station adjutant at R.N.Z.A.F Station, Wigram, Ted Lunn, who holds the B.A. and B.Sc. degrees, was formerly a school teacher. He has alsc held the appointments of Educatior Officer and Sports Officer on severa: air force stations. He joined the Air Force in 1940 and as a representative of the Wigram Athletic Club he was elected a member of the Canterbury centre and. except for short periods when he has been stationed outside Christchurch, he has been on the Canterbury administration ever since. He

has been president of the Canterbury centre since 1949, except for a short term when in the North Island, and he is a vice-president of the New Zealand association. He is one of Canterbury’s travelling delegates to the national association. He has been selecting and managing Air Force athletic teams for many years. As a referee he used to share the responsibilities of this position with the late Bob Beattie. He has acted in this capacity at both the R.N.Z.A.F. and New Zealand championships. He was an official at the Auckland Empire Games. Lunn played senior Rugby as a wing, centre and full-back for University and later when a master at the Christchurch Technical College for the Technical team. He was a Canterbury senior B and a Mid-Canterbury representative. During the war, he played senior Rugby for Air Force. He was a selector for Mid-Canterbury when it beat a Canterbury team in 1943, and for the last four years he has been a zonal selector for the Air Force.
