INSECTS’ RESISTANCE TO INSECTICIDES

DR. W. COTTIER TO ATTEND W.H.O. CONFERENCE (New Zealand Press Association) NELSON, June 29. Dr. W. Cottier, director of the Entomological Division of the Department of Industrial and Scientific Research at Nelson, has been invited by the United Nations World Health Organisation to attend a conference in Geneva to discuss the development of resistance to insecticides by insectcarriers of human diseases.

One of a panel of experts on insecticides appointed by the World Health Organisation, Dr. Cottier is an authority on aphids. He has been stationed at Nelson since 1953 and was appointed director of the entomological division on April 1.

Dr. Cottier will leave for overseas next week. The conference will last from July 10 to 17. Besides studying the resistance of insect carriers of human diseases to insecticides. Dr. Cottier will discuss with other scientists the problem of insects in aircraft.
