GUEST RUGBY CRITIC

VIII The guest Rugby critic this week is Mr W. C. Dailey, former Canterbury and New Zealand half-back, and immediate past president of the Canterbury Rugby Union. He comments as follows on the match last Saturday between Christchurch and Old Boys:— “The games between Christchurch and High School Old Boys are usually highlights of the Rugby season. In the past, both teams have thrown the ball about and have provided for the public spectacular and open games of football. . “Those who saw Saturday s maten

left Lancaster Park with the impression that neither team had any interest in the game. In the first half the handling of some of the prominent players was very bad, and so was the goal kicking. Several easy kicks were missed. I “There was an improvement in tne second half. The handling was much i better and the backs attempted to open up the play, but this developed into chain passing only. There was very little penetration from either side. “One try was scored during the match, the rest of the points coming from kicks. This try was a solo effort and the player concerned showed good ball control. Let us hope that in the next round of matches there will be more open football, with both backs and forwards joining in passing rushes, and may there be less line kicking.”
