SECOND TEST TODAY
RUGBY LEAGUE
Public Interest In Match (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) _ BRISBANE. June 22. Enthusiasts have travelled distances of nearly 900 miles to watch tomorrow’s second Rugby League test match between New Zealand and Australia at the Brisbane Cricket Ground. A special excursion train made the nearly 500-mile trip carrying more than 300 League supporters. They received a ticket for this all-ticket match as they paid their travel fee. The enterprise was arranged by a club. All city hotels have been booked out and the financial success of the match is assured.
More than £lO,OOO from the sale of tickets has been received. If all tickets are sold, takings will be between £12.000 and £14,000.
A big effort is being made to get the New Zealand captain and centre, Tom Baxter, fit for the match.
He has been under the heat lamp until 11 o’clock at night. A decision will not be made whether he will play until just before the match. Baxter injured the inside of his right knee during the last 10 minutes of the match at Townsville on Wednesday. He said he would not play unless he was satisfied he was fit.
The match will be refereed by Mr Darcy Lawler, of Sydney. If New Zealand win, the deciding of the ashes will go to the third test in Sydney next Saturday, on June 30. New Zealand is the holder of the ashes.
