OLYMPIC TEAM MANAGER

FLIGHT LIEUTENANT LUNN NOMINATED Flight Lieutenant E. Lunn was nominated as manager of the athletic section of the New Zealand Olympic team by the Canterbury Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athietic Association last evening. Flight Lieutenant Lunn has been president of the Canterbury Centre for the last six years, except for a short term when he was in the North Island. , . The national association is to be asked to appoint Mr S. Lewis, director of physical education at Canterbury University College, as its official representative at the World Congress of Physical Education, to be held in Melbourne a week before the Games start. If Mr Lewis is not appointed by the New Zealand Association he will represent the centre. A 220 yards record of 25.35ec made by Miss M. Chamberlain on February 25 had not vet been approved by the centre, said the Technical Club in a letter asking for clarification of the position. A record by Miss R. Hames, also Technical, made on the same day, had been approved. When the club had made inquiries from the records steward (Mrs D. Jameson) it was assured an application had been lodged. It appeared that no application had been made or that it had been lost, said members of the records committee. Although the time limit for the recognition of the record had elapsed it was decided to accept a late application. Coaching Group

A coaching group had been formed in Canterbury, said Mr P. R. May and it was intended that the group would affiliate with the centre. The main functions will be the discussion and distribution of films, publications, and the consideration of modern trends in athletics. A donation of £5 was made to help establish the group. Advice was received from the New Zealand association that the Gold Coast and Turkey had asked if their athletes could make a tour of New Zealand after the Olvmpic Games. They have been advised that New Zealand is unable to extend an invitation for a tour on a national basis though individual centres may take them for short tours if the centres wish

Permission was given B. Savage (Westonian). R. Baxter and N. Fleming (Christchuich Harrier Club and Polytechnic). who are now in Australia to comoete there. A clearance was given B. Hutchins (South Canterbury) to compete in England.
