LOCAL BODY ELECTIONS
LABOUR BALLOT ON JULY 19
Three names will go forward for ballot to decide who will be the Labourcandidate for the Christchurch Mayoralty at the coming local body elections. This was reported after a meeting of the Christchurch Labour Representation Committee last evening when it was found who among the original nominations were prepared to accept nomination for the various local bodies. When the ballot is held on July 19 under the preferential voting system, 35 will be in the ballot for Christchurch City Council nomination. 10 for the Lvttelton Harbour Board, 21 for the North Canterbury Hospital Board, and 10 for the North Canterbury Catchment Board. From these 19 are required for the City Council, five for the Harbour Board. 10 for the Hospital Board and four for the Catchment Board. . Original nominations before withdrawals were accepted for various reasons last evening were: City Council 60, Hosoital Board 42, and Harbour Board and Catchment Board 22 each. At the meeting on July 19 all the delegates from branches and affilia ted unions will vote as instructed by their organisations which will receive the names by circular.
