Applause broke out in Court today when Joseph Harry Davidow, a 26-year-old french polisher, was found not guilty of murder in the killing of his invalid mother last January. Davidow told the Court yesterday that he shot his mother because ‘‘she was in constant pain.” , . j Mrs Davidow. aged 50. was found shot dead in her wheelchair. The police said she was apparently suffering from an incurable disease. Mr Justice Rumpff, who described the case as a “tragedy.” instructed the nine-man jury to find the accused not guilty. He told the jury that psychiatrists appearing for the prosecution and the defence had agreed that Davidow, from Johannesburg. had “broken down” at the time of the shooting. In a voice trembling with emotion. Davidow said: “Thank you, my Lord,” when the Judge said he was discharged.
