TWINS DIE IN FIRE
SILVERSTREAM HOME GUTTED FATHER AND CHILD IN HOSPITAL (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, June 21. Two children lost their lives when their home in Silverstream was gutted by fire early this morning. Their brother and their father were badly burned and admitted to the Hutt Public Hospital. The children who died were: Robin Gay Glover and Allan Janies Glover, aged two years and three months. They were twin brother and sister. Raymond Moir Glover, aged four, was taken to hospitd in a serious condition, but was reported later to be improving. The father, James William Moir Glover, a driver, aged 34, of Whitemans Valley road, Silverstream. was also admitted to the hospital. His condition is reported to be comfortable. Mrs Glover and the three remaining children in the family, comprising six-year-old twins, Susan Ann Glover and Jeanette Sandra Glover, and Christine Glover, aged five, were unhurt. The family was unaware of the fire in the early stages. A passer-by noticed it and wakened the household. The Upper Hutt Fire Brigade received a call at 1.53 a.m. and the Silverstream Volunteer Fire Brigade also attended. When the brigades arrived the house was well alight. The fire had enveloped the passages and also had a strong hold on the roof.
The firemen were told there were two children in the house and efforts were concentrated on rescuing them. An entry was made, but the fire-fight-ers were driven back by the heat. The younger twins were sleeping in a room near the rear of the house, and very close to the seat of the fire. The fire was brought under control in about 15 minutes. Four rooms in the seven-roomed wooden house and also the passages were gutted. Only the front rooms were saved. The outside walls and roof were not greatly damaged.
