HORTICULTURAL BUILDING

CALLING OF TENDERS IN FEBRUARY

The Canterbury Horticultural Socity hopes that plans will be ready by the end of next February for the calling of tenders for its new building at the corner of Gloucester street and Cambridge terrace. The building is ex pected to cost about £200,000. Commenting on the report of the building control committee, the chairman (Mr J. R. Templin) told the annual meeting that he could not say when the building would be started. The architects had had instructions to prepare the finished plans. Mr Templin said that the surplus for the year in the building account was just on £2OOO. All that was free money and it was a very good endeavour for the year. Investments of the society’s own funds amounted to nearly £20.000. Sales of debentures were £14.100.

When the society called tenders it would want many persons to buy debentures, Mr Templin said. In line with the changes in interest rates, those who took them up would get 42 per cent, interest. Discussing the annual report, Mr Templin said that membership of the society had reaced more than 2000. There was £122 credit in the general account.
