LINCOLN HOSPITAL REOPENS

NO FURTHER CASES OF SKIN INFECTION

The North Canterbury Hospital Board’s maternity hospital at Lincoln was reopened yesterday after being closed for a week.

The hospital was closed on the suggestion of the Health Department after two suspected cases of staphylococcal skin infection in babies had been notified.

The District Medical Officer of Health (Dr. A. Douglas) said yesterday that there had been no more notifications of the infection but tests to find its cause were still in progress. Since it was made a notifiable disease towards the end of April, 13 cases have been reported in the Christ-church-Greymouth Health District.
