Greek Court Ruling On Dynamite Raid
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) SALONIKA, June 19.
The president of the Greek Court of Appeal Council has dismissed charges against the Turkish Consul-General and his Vice-Consul alleging they were “moral instigators’’ of a dynamite attack last September on the Salonika Consulate.
The attack touched off widespread rioting in Turkish towns, in which demonstrating Turks burned and looted Greek shops and churches amid shouts of “Cyprus is Turkish.” The Court in the first instance had preferred the charges against the Consul, Mehmet Balin, and the Vice-Con-sul. Mihmet Denil Kalp. The Appeal Council president, Mr Manolidskis. said that after further investigation the council had decided to send for trial the Consulate watchman, Hassan Mehmet Oglu, on charges of being the alleged “perpetrator” of the attack and of possessing the explosives.
