FLUORIDATION OF WATER

N.Z. COMPOST SOCIETY’S OPPOSITION

Opposition to the fluoridation of public water supplies until "properly authenticated statistics” and other information covering at least 20 years’ research are available to prove conclusively that no harm can be caused to humans, was expressed in a resolution carried at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Organic Compost Society in Auckland. The resolution was moved by Mr D. M. Robinson, of Auckland, and seconded by Mr T. D. Lennie, of Christchurch.

"While there appears to be evidence that fluoridation of water supplies, up to a maximum of one part per 1,000.000. does confer some temporary benefit to the teeth of children if taken up to the age of 12. eminent authorities are of the opinion that insufficient research has been conducted to determine the effect on other organs of the body,” said the resolution.

"The cumulative detrimental effects of constant and regular ingestion of fluorides may not become apparent for 20 to 30 years, by which time it will be too late to undo any harm done.”
