ACADEMIC BOARD OF UNIVERSITY
MEETINGS BEING HELD IN CHRISTCHURCH
The Academic Board of the University of New Zealand, meeting in Christchurch yesterday and today, was experiencing its first benefits from the creation of the curriculum committee, the chairman (Mr K. J. Maidment. principal of Auckland University University College) said last evening. Previously much of the board’s time had been taken up with changes in courses but, now that these responsibilities had been transferred to the new committee in the last year, there was much better opportunity to discuss the broader academic issues of the university, Mr Maidment said. The 24 members of the board yesterday discussed proposals for the university to. provide pharmacy education. This‘question was considered by the Senate at Lincoln last year, and investigation of the type of course which could be offered and where such a centre should be established was delegated to a special committee. A report has now been approved for submission to the Senate. Recommendations of the Entrance Board were also received. These did not take into account the sweeping changes in entrance qualifications proposed by Auckland University College. There was also a report by the Council of Legal Education, discussions on university scholarships, and on examination procedures under the devolution of authority to constituent colleges.
Today a major item on the agend; is the question of scaling of marks fo. the university entrance examination
