(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright)
(Rec. 10 p.m.) MELBOURNE, June 19. A professor warned university students today that the use of “stay-awake” drugs could cause brain damage and mental breakdowns. Professor K. H. Shaw, a Melbourne University pharmacology professor, condemned the excessive use of “pep” drugs to overcome the desire for sleep and food. Students who had taken the drugs had sometimes turned in examination papers that began intelligently and ended in gibberish.
