NURSES’ HOME AT CASHMERE
SIX STOREY BLOCK TO BE BUILT
CALL FOR TENDERS SHORTLY
The examination of the working drawings and specifications of the proposed nurses’ home at the new Cashmere Hospital has been completed by the Health Department and, subject to agreement being reached with the North Canterbury Hospital Board on certain points, tenders will probably be called sonn. The Minister of Health (Mr J. R. Hanan) told “The Press” this yesterday. The nurses’ home will accommodate 215 nurses in single rooms, two doubleunit flats and three single-unit flats in addition to lounge space. The building will be in six storeys on a site to the south of and directly behind the main hospital block. It will be built of reinforced concrete faced with brick in the same style as the main block.
To the rear of the bedroom wings there will be a single-storey services block containing the kitchen, dining room and central linen storage. ‘‘No date for completion has yet been fixed, but it is intended that the home will be completed sufficiently to accommodate staff for the commissioning of the hospital block when ready.” Mr Hanan said. As competitive tenders for the construction of the home have not yet been called, no estimate of the cost of the building is available.
